What is the Saudi Swedish Joint Business Council?
The Saudi – Swedish Joint Business Council (SSJBC) was launched on October, 6th 2015 at the Saudi Council of Chamber in Riyadh and is a joint partnership between the Swedish and Saudi industry. SSJBC main mission is to develop commercial ties between Sweden and Saudi Arabia. It aims to serve as a platform for exchanging ideas, experiences and opportunities, as well as a forum to discuss ways of improving the already important business ties between the two countries.
The Mission Statement: “To strengthen and facilitatedynamic business relations between Saudi Arabia and Sweden by attending key opportunities and challenges, furthering mutual understanding, and providing high-level support to companies of all sizes. We aim to ensure their success in both markets ”
The Vision statement: “Leading the future ofSwedish-Saudi business, setting global benchmarks for innovative and sustainable bilateral trade, and championing a united global community through
trade ”Our Objectives:
1. Trade & Investment Promotion: Encouage and promote trade and investment through relationship building communication, information and various activities.
2. Relationship Building & Advocacy: Communicate with public and private stake-holders in both countries to improve cooperation and lessen risks of misunderstandings
3. Knowledge Transfer: Promote training, technology transfer and access to knowledge programs
To whom is the Saudi Swedish Joint Business Council aimed for?
The Saudi-Swedish Joint Business Council (SSJBC) is intended for chair persons and top management of companies that already do business, or are planning to expand in Saudi Arabia or in Sweden.
How is the Council organized?
The Business Council is comprised by two secretariats in each country. In Sweden, this secretariat is currently set as a project organization under the umbrella of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce. A small but dedicated steering committee, chaired by Mr. Marcus Wallenberg, chairman of SEB sets the general direction of the secretariat. The day-to-day operation is managed by a part-time secretary general, currently Mr. Patrick El-Cheikh.
The Council’s core function is to organizing annual joint council meetings and high level networking receptions, alternating between Sweden and Saudi Arabia. It also supports working groups to develop exchange in certain prioritized business areas. Supporting members will always be able to attend free-of-charge and be given priority to those events. Other member services includes:
- Priority notice when special events involving Saudi-Swedish relations are announced
- Invitations to seminars, trade delegations, exhibitions and other key events in respective country
- Help to access to senior leadership through the council’s extensive reach
- Counseling on cultural protocols and practices for doing business in Saudi Arabia and Sweden
- Recent updates on Swedish-Saudi business relations
For more extensive professional services, SSJBC may direct supporting members to other service providers.

The SSJBC organizes also smaller membership meetings and participates in other high-level delegations and activities several times per year.
OUR COMMITTEES
SSJBC Focus Areas & Working Committees
SSJBC has several working groups to advance Swedish - Saudi relations on specific areas of interest for our members. These are currently:
Healthcare & Health tourism: The objective of this committee is to focus on training and knowledge exchange in the healthcare sector.
Education & Training: Encourage exchange of students between the two countries. An MoU between Sweden and Saudi Arabia has been signed in the field of education.
Environment & Sustainability: Focus on waste, power and water. The idea is to collaborate on all three fronts.
The Saudi-Swedish Innovation Pipeline (SSIP): This initiative aims to help innovators scale-up, get funded and capture large markets by capitalizing on the synergies between the two economies.

Business Sweden’s purpose is to help Swedish companies to grow their global sales and international companies to invest and expand in Sweden.
The Swedish Embassy promote and strengthen the relations between Sweden and Saudi Arabia in a wide range of areas. Political dialogue, trade, investment and promotion of Sweden as a modern prime business and tourist destination are priorities.
